ABOUT MICHAEL LASSMAN
Every Journey Begins with a Search.
Mine Led Me from Chasing Success... to Discovering Freedom, Purpose, and a Legacy that Lasts.
ABOUT MICHAEL LASSMAN
I Spent Much of My Life Chasing Success.
Eventually, I realized I was searching for something deeper.
THE JOURNEY
Success and Significance Are Not the Same Thing.
I spent decades pursuing achievement, only to discover that success alone could never answer life’s deepest questions.
-
For much of my life, I believed fulfillment was just one achievement away. A successful career, financial security, professional recognition, envied houses, cars, clubs, spouse, and accomplished children. Reaching each new milestone seemed as if it would finally answer the questions that quietly followed me wherever I went.
Like so many people, I was pursuing a life that looked successful from the outside while wondering why it still felt incomplete and empty on the inside. Looking back, I realized I wasn't simply chasing success—I was searching for purpose. I just didn't know it yet.
-
That pursuit led me from Wall Street into a rewarding career in the energy industry, where I spent decades in commercial leadership, business development, executive management, and entrepreneurship. I had opportunities to build new businesses, lead exceptional teams, negotiate complex transactions, and work alongside remarkable people across the country.
By most external measures, I had achieved the life I had worked so hard to build. Yet success has a way of revealing what it can—and cannot—provide. The accomplishments were real, but they couldn't satisfy the deeper questions about identity, meaning, and why I was here in the first place.
-
Eventually, the cracks began to show.
Behind the accomplishments was a man wrestling with addiction, broken relationships, business failures, disappointment, regret, and the painful realization that many of the things I had counted on for fulfillment were incapable of providing it.
Brokenness has a way of stripping away our illusions. Mine forced me to confront the difference between what the world celebrates and what the soul truly needs. It was one of the most difficult seasons of my life, but it became the beginning of something far greater.
-
Recovery became much more than putting down a drink.
It became a complete transformation of how I viewed my life, my identity, my faith, and my purpose. It required honesty, humility, forgiveness, and the willingness to let God rebuild what I could never repair on my own.
Over time, I discovered that transformation isn't about becoming a different person. It's about becoming the person God created you to be. That journey continues every day, and it remains the greatest work of my life.
-
Those experiences changed the direction of my life forever.
Today, I write, speak, and share my story because I believe one of the greatest crises of our time isn't a lack of success—it's a lack of purpose. Too many people spend their lives climbing ladders only to discover they were leaning against the wrong wall.
Whether through Killing Mr. Hyde, Modern Man's Search for Meaning, The Seven Stones, or future projects, my mission is the same: to help people find freedom, discover God's purpose for their lives, and leave a legacy that outlives them.
If my journey encourages even one person to become who God created them to be, then every success, every failure, every struggle, and every victory has been worth it.
Success may fill your calendar, but only purpose fills your soul.

WHY I WRITE
The Greatest Tragedy Isn't Failing. It's Succeeding at the Wrong Things.
There comes a moment in many lives when these questions become impossible to ignore.
Is this all there is?
Why do I still feel empty?
What was I created for?
I know those questions because I've asked them myself.
For years, I believed success, achievement, and recognition would satisfy the deepest longings of my heart. They didn't. It wasn't until I experienced brokenness, recovery, and a renewed relationship with God that I discovered what I had really been searching for all along.
Today, every book I write, every message I share, and every stage I stand on has the same purpose:
To help people find freedom, discover their God-given purpose, and live lives that leave a lasting legacy.
Because I believe the greatest crisis of our time isn't a lack of success.
It's that too many people spend their lives becoming successful without ever becoming who God created them to be.
My hope isn't simply to inspire people for a moment.
It's to help them experience lasting transformation.
